Reminiscing tropical kampong houses is our main inspiration for this project. Our goal was to create a home that was easy-going in spirit with different pockets of space to play, rest and communicate. We blurred the perception of external and internal spaces by providing pockets of skylights & air wells within the living area of the house. The strategy creates a perceived outdoor space reminisce of the in-between kampong houses spaces where communal activities blossom. We were fascinated with the concept of up-cycling materials and had an appreciation for antique Javanese timber doors and windows. As such, we handpicked and restored battered timber windows/doors to use as an architectural fabric for the house facade and internal partition.
