“Eight Architects to Watch”
Editor’s Note “ Over the past two decades, we have featured their projects, supporting them in their contribution to Singapore’s built environment, while also subliminally giving definition to the country’s architecture. It is therefore apt that this become the focus of a feature, where we trace its evolution in the last 20 years.
Yet, even as we look back, we must look forward. We have singled out eight architects to keep our eyes on, making up the next generation who will shape Singapore’s buildscape. Visit our website for the extended versions of our interviews with them, progressively published from July till the end of the year.” - Lo Shi Ping
Panel:
Bjorn Low, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Edible Garden City
Prof. (Dr) Chong Keng Hua, Festival Director of ArchiFest 2020
Nayan Parekh, Lead Consultant and Strategist, Gensler Singapore
Goy Zhenru, Principal of Goy Architects

SUKASANTAI, FARM TO TABLE MOVEMENT, FILM BY GOY ARCHITECTS, 2019
“There is a saying in Indoneisan. Takanal maka tak sayang - This is a saying about people, if you don’t know somebody, then you don’t care about the person. You can say this is true about nature too, if you are not in touch with nature, you won’t care about it.” '- Stephanie Moriyama.
Sukasantai is a family own and run organic vegetable farm stay located on the highlands of Gunung Gede, Sukabumi, Indonesia. The 6 Ha organic farm with its communal kitchen, dining space and twelve accommodation rooms seeks to reacquaint city dwellers with nature and the origins of their food supply. In the farm-stay, visitors can be reacquainted with nature and the origins of their food supply.
With the growing disconnection of people not knowing how and where food comes from, the project hopes to reconnect this disjuncture. The guests can interact with the local community and participate in planting and harvesting activities alongside with them.

MAKING ARCHITECTURE, ARCHIFEST OCT 2019
URA ATRIUM
We exhibited our process models for One Tat Seng .
We studied a various colour combination of the sun shading with varying degrees of angles, spacing – drawing inspiration from leaves foliages. The powder-coated sheet aluminium expanded metal mesh is then cut and folded into a 'Z' configuration for structural stability. As an urban and landmark strategy, we wanted to highlight the escape staircase not as a practical entity but as an urban sculptural structure. We painted the core of the escape staircase with two tones of green. The above creates two vertical illuminances that punctuate along the stretch of dusky industrial estates.
